Fruitlessness of day of valentine etc.February 12, 2005

When I was living in India till 70s nobody had ever heard of valentine day or day of love etc.

Perhaps each day was a valentine and love day.

People simply smiled and speed was slower pace.

Then in 80s I was in a European city and I saw that on a particular day women gave their men a book and

men gave their women a flower. I asked curiously what was that and they said it is day of and for love.

It surprised me a bit initially.

Well now it seems the media has transported local or regional events or traditions to far off places.

Indian television news shows celebration of valentine with more vigor than perhaps original mediterranean cities

where it was initially known. I dont have any problem with that but I find it bit disturbing.

I think if you love someone or someone loves  you,  you do not have to wait for Feb 14th.

For me every single hour of each day of each month and year while I am here is for love.

Now the love professed is not necessarily compassion. But I guess somewhere deeper people's real intent is to connect with someone and they call this connection love.

For me love is connection with universe.

Hence when you do that you love whole universe and all that is contained in it.

The flowers wake up and remain beaming

whole day and sleep after sunset. We can follow their style.

PrayerFebruary 10, 2005

May all beings have happiness
And the causes of happiness;
May all be free of sorrow
and the causes of sorrow;
May all never be separate from the sacred happiness
That is sorrowless;
May all leave attachment to dear ones and aversion to others
And live believing in the equality of all that lives.
